Sho-Comms NZ Ltd are looking to recruit a Telecommunications Network Planner to join our busy team. We specialise in structured data/ fibre cabling, cctv, alarm security, access control system, networking, phone systems etc. This is a permanent position.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate records of job work hours and provide other administrative functions.
- Installing and download appropriate software for electronics devices such as routers/switches/firewall/Wifi/Jammers and adapting existing programs and providing IT support for the end users.
- Responsible to configure IP network devices such as router/switches/firewalls and establish/troubleshoot the end-to-end connectivity including layer-2/layer-3 devices from client to client and client to internet/intranet.
- Creating firewalls and updating virus protection software and data security systems to keep customers data and communications protected from external virus attacks.
- Monitor and manage data network, perform troubleshoot on same and repair and replace fibre, CAT5 and CAT6 cable with the help of cable crimping tool by considering the network outages.
- Design and site planning of New network Solution for Implementation over client networks by considering customer requirements.
- OS upgrade of clients network elements and servers.
- To check planned ports(1G/10G/100G), IP addresses, VLANs etc. are available as per expected solution.
- Testing of clients network with the help of networking tools/softwares.
- Connects fibre optic cables to networking outlets and between network outlets.
- Maintaining and repairing, replacing and adjusting faulty items, cables and testing equipment using electronic instruments e.g. Fluke tester.
- Responsible for designing cable network for Local Area Network and perform implementation of network infrastructure.
- Testing using Fluke tester.
- Responsible to setup the Local Area Network for customers, including configurations on Windows Servers, Windows Personal Computers or mobile phones.
- Installation of Local area Network (LAN).
- Setup of Network switches/routers/firewalls and VLAN for network.
- Installation and setup of wireless networks.
- Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages, testing network backup procedure updating documentation for that.
- The supply and installation of racks, computer hardware, switches and routers.
- Maintains inventory of cables and stock equipment including reordering stock equipment and parts.
- Test and document system behaviour, performance and security.
Experience/qualification requirements :
- Relevant tertiary qualification in IT or Telecommunications.
- Minimum 3 years of experience required for IT/Networking/Cloud underlay networks.
- Good customer service skills required.
- Should have experience in providing network optimization support for any kind of network upgradation, new services deployment, OS recommendations, network capacity enhancement, network Audits generate guidelines as per client requirement.
- Decent experience in demonstration of end-to-end connectivity/layer-2/layer-3 logical connectivity over cloud/native network environment with IEEE standards.
- Good hands-on experience in Microsoft Visio to draw the network/fibre end to end topologies diagrams.
- Having knowledge underlay network and optical connectivity of SDI/SDWAN networks.
- Networking experience with decent understanding of IP addressing Vlan/VXLan/VPN, layer-2 connectivity and initial understating of layer-3 protocols (OSPF/BGP/MPLS)
- Initial understanding of ethical hacking and protection of layer-2 networks from attacks and viruses.
- Understanding of networking elements(router/switch/firewall/servers) along with integration/configuration and troubleshooting experience.
- IT troubleshooting experience over IT servers and IT network equipment..
- Must be willing to travel and work a flexible work schedule which could include Saturdays, Sundays and outside standard business hours.
- An energetic personality, outstanding communication skills and enthusiastic approach to work.
- The ability to work independently and use your initiative.
- As all of our worksites require technicians to abide drug laws so Technician may be required to undergo a Pre-Drug test before joining or onsite as well.
- The ability to lead and manage yourself and team members when required.

Employment is permanent and is for a minimum of 32hrs a week between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday
Applicants must be able to work weekends and public holidays
Pay rate $31 to $36 per hour depending on experience
